Do not get carried away with your Christmas supermarket shop. Remember, Christmas is a celebration but does it really warrant that 1KG tin of chocolates or the 12 pack of pastry packed sausage rolls and pork pies?! If it is not in your trolley it cannot end up in your mouth, so shop sensibly. Your waistline and wallet will both be grateful!
Oats/Muesli – Do you need a powerful shot of protein and fiber in the morning? Try some oats or muesli and you will be happy to have a bowl on alternate mornings. You can add some fresh fruits and dry fruits to make your breakfast complete. These will give you an opportunity to try new flavors everyday so you are not bored of your breakfast and also get a healthy boost every morning.
Even though children may claim they do not need to eat breakfast, as parents we know better. Children need food. It is important to help them grow and to help them learn. They may not feel hungry but their brains and bodies need nutrients. With the current problems of obesity it is important to teach children healthy eating practices. The lesson of a healthy breakfast every day is good place to start.
There is a wide assortment of food items to choose from. These include fruits, vegetables, meat and grains. These food items all contain different vitamins and minerals that the body needs for optimum health and fitness.
The bars come in a six pack with 2 of each of the three flavors included. This sells for about .50 at WalMart, and elsewhere. This means each bar costs about 41 cents. That’s not bad, considering the taste and nutritional value, as well as the simplicity and ease of use! The normal appetite, especially a child’s, would find one bar to be adequate for breakfast. I must admit that i generally eat two a morning. Still, that’s less than a dollar for breakfast! Milk and cereal and bowls and spoons would have cost a lot more!
Warning: don’t try to drink the cider vinegar neat. It can irritate your throat, as well as your stomach lining, so ensure that you dissolve it in liquid, and don’t go overboard on the quantities.
A long term approach to eating consciously is to understand that there are two forms of eating: planned and unplanned. You should try to make most of your meals fit into the “planned” category. However, sometimes there will be meals out and treats that will fall into the unplanned category. The trick is to try to reduce those occurrences.
If you prefer a light breakfast drink, then a banana smoothie is the way to go. Milk is mixed together with mashed banana to create a healthy drink. My preference is to use non-fat milk as I find it mixes in the blender to a thicker mixture – be warned though – do not over mix or it becomes too thick. Add a few drops of vanilla to flavour.
